I would be interested in both events. I think Belgian Beer is a great way to start off the weekend.

Also, anyone interested in a club outing to Max’s for Belgian Beer Fest 2/18?

I won’t be able to make the meeting in Feb, because I will be attending a fundraiser event for my job. But I will be at the brew, ready to go.

Excellent idea, Tim.

That’s definitely something we could use. Feel free to drop a list here and we’ll see what we can do.

Never brewed with Ringwood Yeast before, so it’ll be interesting.

Definitely short notice and weekday action, but I’ll be brewing tomorrow morning at first light. A chocolate/cherry stout base with damiana leaves and guarana.

Hit me up if you wanna’ hang.

I didn’t have a chance to attend the January meeting but I did have a quick read through the minutes… Perhaps the topic was brought up at the meeting, but I’ll post it to the website so that everyone can comment.

In line with the club’s stated purpose of educating beginner home brewers, forming a collective library of everyones’ brewing books would be an easy way for new brewers to have access to brewing information outside of the club events. It would be a particularly good complement to the club brewing kits that are to be purchased from the collection of member dues. What better to accompany your first brew than a book that answers most, if not all, of your last minute questions as the wort boils on the stove?

As far as organization of the library goes, I see that it could be as simple as generating a list/database of homebrew titles with each book’s respective owner and the current holder. This list could be maintained by an individual and posted to the website on a monthly basis. Monthly meetings would serve as great book swapping occasions, as 4 weeks should be more than enough time to read over your current borrow. If someone has another opinion on this setup, please sound off.

In general, mutual respect for someone else’s book should be enough to govern the borrowing policy, i.e. return the book (or pass it on) in a condition close to how you received it, don’t hold onto it longer than you will find it useful/interesting, etc. Of course dogs will be dogs (and chew off a book corner or dispatch it completely) or a book will be lost, at which point we should have some replacement policy in place. A used copy from Amazon or a 2nd hand bookstore would be enough I’d think, but how does everyone else feel?

I’d like to volunteer to put together the list if there is enough interest, I have a few titles myself that I am willing to lend out and I will locate at home tonight. If you have some books that would be a good resource (and you’re willing to lend out) please email me at timoberc@gmail.com with the author, title (and edition, if applicable), and your full name as the owner/current holder. Please type something like “Baltibrew Library” in the subject line so they can be easily recognized. Feel free to post titles to this post as well…

I think this common library would be a great way to increase the collective knowledge of the club as well as provide an additional incentive for beginners to come to the group meetings for book swaps.

Thanks!
