July Minutes

I've been a bad secretary.  Thanks to Kris for providing minutes:

  • Chilibrew Update - Mike
  • Guild Notes - Jude
    • Mashout - 30th anniversary year – August 17-20 at a new location: Fort Royale Farm in Bedford, PA (just north of Cumberland). Registration is open, cost is lower than previous years: http://campmashout.com 
    • Guild looking to incorporate as a non-profit
    • Lots of competitions coming up!  See the attached guild notes.
  • Future Group Brew Plans
    • Look out for information on the September brew, which could be a group brew for chilibrew beers
  • Logistics Upload - Greg
    • 42 Paying Members - Insurance for this year submitted
    • 501c7 Application is mostly complete, preparing our financial statements
    • Will not happen in time to get the one day liquor license for Chilibrew, this isn't a problem for the event as there are other means for securing the license
  • Social Happenings - Ryan
    • Wet City's Cityscape Party - Today, Friday July 21st
    • Troeg's bus trip through AVAM Saturday July, 29th http://avam.org/news-and-events/events/troegs-trip-with-avam.shtml
    • The next BaltiBrew social will be in August or September, ideas floated included a Oliver or Monument City tap room visit.  Detter will reach out to the soon to be opened Suspended Brewing to see if they are interested in doing something.  Watch the listserve for more information.
  • August RaR Trip
    • Kris, Graham, Becky, and Christoph are headed to RaR for day trip on Saturday, August 12th. If you want to join us, let us know!  We'll work out the logistics as it closer but we're definitely going.

  • Franks to host group brew in July

  • Jacob volunteered for chilibrew in absentia
  • 501c7 agreed as better than c3, secretary to send email to vote for 2 week period,  "should baltibrew use club funds to pay for c7 fees, approx. $400 (survey monkey or website?)
  • Need to promote website and social media
  • Ray volunteered to be social media czar
  • Round table brew talk, "wut da fuk ya doin"
  • Ed topic, jon blairs grain to brain in 10 daze
  • June 16, 17 tasting seminar hop oils kit plus faults kit at blairs, 20 spots per class

April Minutes

Meeting held at Waverly Brewing.

  • Officer Update - Kris
    • As a reminder, these are the elected officers for this calendar year.
    • Brewmaster: Jacob Wolf
    • Treasurer: Greg Schwender
    • Meeting Czar: Kristofer Quinn
    • Chilibrew Czar: Mike Andrews
    • Education Czar: Jon Blair
    • Quartermaster: Ciaran Ussher
    • Social Secretary: Ryan Detter
    • Website Coordinator: Brent Hoffmann
    • We still have 2 vacant positions, although it sounds like Nick Lindow may step up for Secretary.  If you have any interest in becoming the Guild Rep, please step forward.

      • Secretary
        The secretary is responsible for taking meeting minutes and memorializing them in an email or word document.  Is also responsible for voting.

      • Guild Rep
        The Guild Rep is our club’s representative to the Freestate Homebrew Guild.  There are bimonthly meetings at Maryland Homebrew in Columbia, MD.
  • Big Brew - Jacob
    • Big Brew is coming up on May 6th!  Watch for updates from Jacob to coordinate brews and supplies.  Please swing by for part of the day.  The event starts at 9:30 AM in the parking lot of Nepethene.
  • Social - Detter
    • Lots of social events are going down this weekend.  Here's a list!
    • Ben's Party in Severna Park on Saturday the 29th
    • Monument City's Grand Opening in Highlandtown on Saturday
    • Key Brewing Cookout in Dundalk on Saturday(maybe?)
    • WTMD Brews and Band in Towson on Saturday
    • DC Beer Festival in DC on Saturday
    • Apples to Apples at Blue Pit on Sunday
    • There was interest in organizing a social event at the Brass Tap, owned and operated by Baltibrewer Barry Lowenthal.
  • Chilibrew - Mike
    • Mike is looking for a coordinator to help with Chili Brew.  Please reach out to him if you're interested in helping.
  • 501c3/501c7 Update - Greg

    • The paperwork to incorporate Baltibrew was filed.  We can now move forward with applying for either 501c3 or 507c7 status.  This item was debated at length a year and half ago.  There has been some significant turnover in the club since then.  More information will be provided on this before the next meeting.
  • Ed Topic - Saccharomyces Eubayanus

    • Saccharomyces Eubayanus and it's role as a parent of Lager Yeast was discussed.
  • Homebrew Swap!

    • Many tasty brews were exchanged include a Grodziskie (polish smoked wheat beer), NEIPA, Kettle Sour Pale Ale, and more!

    • Nick Lindow is hosting this month's Marzen group brew at his home on March 25. Please RSVP on the facebook page.

    • There seems to be some interest in trying to organize a trip to Philly to visit Tired Hands and possible some other brew pubs. Options for transportation will depend on how many people are interested. To gauge roughly how many people might want to do something like this, please shoot me and email.
