August Brew: Hurricane Kölsch

Join us tomorrow 8/27 at member Greg Slack's house for our August brew — 45 gallons of a fairly traditional Kölsch.

Start time is 8:30 a.m. Greg and Steve Hulbert will be leading the brew.

Bring the following items:

  •  Good Beer! (Homebrew or store-bought. We'll have ice for the beer)
  •  Meat to grill (Or meat alternative if your diet tends in another direction.) And other food to share. FYI, John is taking care of the donuts.
  •  Folding chair
  •  Rain gear. (We expect the hurricane to begin its arrival while we're brewing)
  •  6 gallon fermentation bucket if you RVSP'd to take home wort.
  •  Money to pay for your wort — $25. Anyone who needs to pay membership dues should bring another $10 for the prorated dues.

If for some reason we're forced to suspend activities or cancel entirely due to the storm, we will repost here, and send out emails.

If you have any questions, call Steve Hulbert @ 410.905.8082.

August Meeting Minutes (Broken Attachment)

Meeting seemed to go well last night. Not amazingly attended, but we got the business at hand done.

Read the minutes, and make comments as you need to.

Baltibrew/Orioles Game

I know, the Orioles suck.  That said, we all know come February we would pay a cool mint to be outside hearing the crack of the bat while enoying a nice microbrew.  So, with that in mind i want to get together some baltibrew members for an Orioles game.  I am a season ticket holder so i could get a group rate and we could meet at pratt st ale house (or quiggleys) before for some beers.

The question is, which date.  I have put together a list below.  Check the boxes of the games you could make and if you have any strong preference, make note in the comments.  Lets make this happen.  O-R-I-O-L-E-S!

A weekend night/day would be preferable, but i added a selection for weekday games if people prefer that:

Which Orioles weekend?

  • 9/16-18 (angels) (33%, 5 Votes)
  • weekday games: 8/29-9/1, 9/12-14, 9/26-28 (33%, 5 Votes)
  • 8/26-28 (yankees) (20%, 3 Votes)
  • 8/11-14 (tigers) (13%, 2 Votes)

      Order of business:

      • Club brew in August?  Straw vote from attendees - yes for August brew.  Potential dates:  Sat, Aug 6, Sat, Aug 13, or Sat, Aug 27.  Due to MASHOUT, Sat, Aug 20 is not possible.  Josh & Dan offered to host now that they have the space if it's Aug 27.  It looks like Sat, Aug 27 will be the date.  We had an offer to hold it at a site in Columbia.  Being a Baltimore City-based club, the next brew needs to be in the city.
      • Discussed BBW 2011 - need to know how we're participating??  Suggested we at least go in at the participating sponsor level.  Chilibrew 4 is our one event.  More events are possible.
      • Chilibrew 4 - probably Fri night or Sunday afternoon.  John Jester suggested opening Sunday, rather than closing Sunday.  Ian compared BBW to Philly beer week.  Call out to other club members from Ian to help organize this fall's Chilibrew 4.  Ian needs sponsors for pint glass???  Prizes for chili & brew??????????
        • Various & Sundry stuff:

          • MASH-OUT - Kevin talked it up - Aug 19-21 - limited to 200 people...click here for more info.
          • Upcoming competitions:  Pratt Street Alehouse has a competition where the winning home brewer will have their brew made by PSA in time for BBW.  Info will be posted here.
