Rescheduled Regular Meeting at the New Regular Spot

Our rescheduled July meeting takes place Thursday the 14th at Alewife, and at the usual 8 pm start time. There should be ample paid parking nearby. Here's a map link so you can find it and be there on time.

We haven't set all that solid of an agenda yet, so if you have something to discuss drop it in the comments.

Hope to see you there.

Sad News; New Beginnings…

As most members are aware, our usual haunt —Muggsy's Mughouse— is closing tonight, a week before our scheduled July meeting.

A fair number of us will be there this evening to usher them out with a bang, feel free to drop by.

With Muggsy's closed, and short notice to find a new venue, the club has decided to move our meeting to July 14th. There are a couple candidates for new spots that have made the short list, and we're solidifying plans now, but will save you members the trouble of speculation and worry, and promise that wherever we meet, it will be a good meeting place with the same high-caliber beer selection, it will allow us to bring in our homebrew, and —as far as we know now— we will still be holding regular meetings on the first Thursday of every month.

Hope to see you at Muggsy's tonight for the farewell, and we'll be in touch regarding a venue for July 14th.

Bastille Day beers, anyone?

June Brew: Release the YEAST!

Photo of yeast cells buddingBrew day is THIS SATURDAY, June 25th @ the home of John Jester.

Unfortunately, our planned guest brewer, Rob Perry will not be able to make the brew, but has promised to help us out in the future. Despite his absence, we will be making 45 gallons of Belgian Pale Ale, and will have three different yeasts graciously provided by Brewer's Art for use on the beer.

This experiment will show what a substantial difference your choice of yeast makes even on the same beer. The only difference between any of the beers produced from this collective brew — outside of your own sanitation, and temperature controls — is the yeast.

We'll also be debuting our second 150 qt. mash tun which could eventually — with new kettles — almost double our current capacity.

Mash-in starts at 9 a.m. sharp, and we expect to be finished by 5 p.m. if all goes according to plan.

Eight 5-gallon batches will be available for dues-paid members to take home. I will post price this evening in the comments. Bring a fermenter or rent a club bucket for $5.

Remember: John has opened his pool, so bring towels, swimsuits, and sunscreen.

As usual, there will be grill space available so bring something to grill, a side dish, and most importantly, beer to share.

Minutes and June Brew (Broken Attachment)

Hey all!

Been a busy couple of weekends, but here's the minutes for this month's 6-2 meeting.

I also wanted to remind everyone that our June 25th brew is quickly approaching.

John and I have put together a basic recipe to use, with different Brewer's Art yeast strains available for members to choose from.

We'll post another update early this coming week.

Regular June Meeting

Regular meeting takes place on Thursday 6-2, with us going over a few things in prep for the generally less active, less busy Summer months. I say generally, because at Baltibrew, we don't really close up shop the way many clubs do.

We'll be talking about the following things tomorrow at our usual Muggsy's location at 8 p.m. I'm betting they'll have another brewery there to visit like they have the last two months. Always a surprise as to who it will be.

  1. Guild Picnic which takes place on Saturday at the Patapsco State Park just past Ellicott City. We'll coordinate carpools, etc. and prep for the Wheat Beer Comp!
  2. June Brew, which is 6-25 at John Jester's house with Rob Perry from Brewer's Art
  3. Baltimore Beer Week — including Chilibrew IV, and other possible events we will run during this year's big 10 days.

If you've got other items to be discussed, please post them in the comments!

Hope to see you there.
